San Blas...Irgandi Island Here I Come!

Saying Goodbye to the Great Elder Hansen Farewell Elder Hansen and La Cabima! Note: This week Elder Doxey could only Instant Message us. The headphones and speakers in the Internet Cafe were broken. His camera is broken too. So, this week's letter is a summary of our messaging conversation, plus some explanation on the significance of today's communication. "El Sordomudo" ... Irgandi Food Edition | 2 Locals Speak in Church | Recovering from High Seas

Hi Family and Friends! This letter could literally be called "the Irgandi Food Edition" for many reasons. I am going to share a ton of pictures (b/c the Internet connection seems to be working at the moment). Time for some Iguana Soup Question: What's new? How are things going? Elder Doxey: This time of year in Irgandi is "Iguana Month", which means anyone with an escopeta (shotgun) goes hunting for Iguanas. The Kunas literally have an "Iguana Month"...it's kind of a big deal Typical San Blas Iguana Soup This makes it sound like people have shotguns here...they don't. I have only seen one that is used by all 250 people here, but it is really important b/c that is often how they get food. Looks like noodles, but is actually very young netted fish I have to admit, they do not know how to cook here, or make flavor happen. I guess they try, but everything they hunt and gather seems to end up boiled, with salt, lime, cocon

Last Transfer | Whitewashed APs | Elder Martinez | Alta Loma Spanish Ward

Hi all, This week we had what I think will be my last transfer. President Reese "whitewashed" the APs, (releasing both APs and calling two new ones--a double transfer). This was pretty surprising b/c I thought Elder Webb would remain as one of the APs b/c he was not an AP as long as I was. We worked on transfers all day last Saturday (rotating cars, SIM cards, housing arrangements). The two new APs are Elder Sanabria and Elder Kellogg. They will be great for many reasons, but also have 20 months in the mission. It was a long process, but it was good. He still expects us to help every missionary. Once an AP, always an AP, right? With this, I'm training a new Elder again. My new area is Shadow Hills Zone, in the Alta Loma Spanish Ward...a full Spanish Ward. I will be training Elder Martinez, who is native Mexican but from Logan, Utah. He has been in the mission 5 months, so he is not brand brand new, but new enough. Elder Webb went to a Spanish branch.
